Create a Support Network at Work and Home

You may think that you have to do everything yourself. You either don’t think about asking for help or the concept intimidates you, even when you need it. It’s imperative that you create a system of support – people who can lend a hand whenever you need them.

Whether it’s knowing who your go to person is whenever you need clarification on a work project or enlisting the help of your parents or in-laws for an errand, you should know who to turn to before overwhelm sets in.

If you feel stressed out about work, whether you have too much to do or you’re confused about a project, don’t be shy about asking your boss or co-worker for help. It’s better that you ask for help rather than let the work pile up and stress you out while taking up all of your free time.

Don’t be afraid to ask your friends or family for support when you’re feeling discouraged. Talking to someone about how you’re feeling and asking them for advice isn’t something to be ashamed of.

You can also talk to a co-worker or your boss when you’re feeling discouraged, as long as it’s about work issues. You could feel too busy to run errands that are important to your family, such as picking your kids up from school, going grocery shopping, taking mail to the post office, etc.

Ask your friends and family for some help in running those errands. You can ask your parents, spouse, in-laws, or even a friend that’s very close to you. Your family can also help out in doing chores around the house.

When you get home from work, you may try to spend some of your free time cleaning up around the house, but you need that time to relax and unwind. Ask your family to do things like keeping up with the dishes, keeping their rooms picked up, cleaning the bathroom and living room, and any other problem areas in your home.

Recognizing the things that are overwhelming you the most is where you should start in asking others for help. You may feel like you have too much on your plate in terms of your workload, chores, or errands.

Identify someone who you can count on that will be willing to help you with different issues you may have, and don’t be afraid ask for assistance to make sure that you don’t get overwhelmed.
